The Brief

Dr. Martens partnered with emerging filmmakers to produce Dr. Martens Presents, a music and film series exploring underground music communities in New York and Los Angeles. The project centered on short documentary-style films highlighting artists, musicians, and devoted fans—capturing the scenes they’ve built and the cultures they continue to shape.

The goal was to create a landing page that honored each artist's energy while staying true to Dr. Martens’ legacy and voice.

The Solution

We designed and built a dedicated landing page for each artist, creating a home for their short documentary and visual story. Using photography captured on location during the shoots, we crafted custom collages that embodied both the individuality of each musician and the unmistakable attitude of Dr. Martens. The photography was intentionally treated as raw material—cut, layered, distressed, and reworked—allowing the visuals to feel expressive rather than polished, and grounding each page in the artist’s world while maintaining cohesion across the series.

The visual language was inspired by vintage punk rock posters and album covers, using a tactile, hand-done approach. Design techniques included photocopy, cut-outs, collaging, typography, and hand-drawn elements—bringing an imperfect, expressive quality to the experience.

The designs also captured the musicians' experiences as they navigated the landscape during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matter Movement, and their relationship to music. The result was a digital space that felt raw, human, and culturally grounded—amplifying voices while honoring the spirit of Dr. Martens.
